WELCOME!
Welcome to the Aultman Emergency Medicine Residency website, a helpful, informative guide to everything you need to know about our distinguished residency. If you have any questions that are not answered here, please contact us by email at [email protected].
Accredited by the ACGME, the Aultman EM Residency seeks to:
• Mentor residents to develop expertise in emergency medicine.
• Equip and train compassionate physicians who advocate for their patients and become leaders in their community.
• Endow lifelong learning skills.
• Create and preserve an environment that promotes physician wellness.
Although we are a newer program, our leadership and faculty offer decades of experience in emergency medicine residency education. We actively look for new and innovative strategies for our interactive curriculum, and we are looking for hard-working residents who wish to become leaders in emergency medicine—people who are excited about the opportunity to shape a relatively new program into the region’s premier emergency medicine program. I am confident that we will continue to train the very best emergency physicians – ones who can practice and thrive in any environment upon graduation.
During the intern year, our curriculum includes emergency medicine, pediatric emergency medicine, intensive care, cardiology, OB/GYN, anesthesia and orthopedics. PGY-2 includes emergency medicine, pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric intensive care, trauma, resuscitation and an elective. PGY-3 includes emergency medicine, pediatric emergency medicine, intensive care, administration/ultrasound and electives. Residents have the opportunity to rotate at Akron Children’s Hospital for pediatric emergency medicine and pediatric intensive care. They will experience one month at MetroHealth for a trauma rotation.
On Thursday mornings, our residents have protected conference time. Conferences include interactive lectures, small group sessions, simulation, procedure labs, oral board preparation, ultrasound instruction and EM foundations.
Aultman Hospital is a 1,032-bed hospital system serving Stark, Carroll, Wayne, Holmes and Tuscarawas counties. We have achieved many national awards, accolades and recognition for our outstanding clinical care. We are a resident-friendly setting and seek to provide individualized resident educational goals while providing an outstanding overall experience. We work closely with our colleagues and residents in Family Medicine, OB/GYN, Internal Medicine, Radiology, Orthopedics and Cardiology fellowships.
I hope that I will have the opportunity to meet and talk with you about the many opportunities that we can provide.
With best regards,
Alison Southern MD, MS, FAAEM
